When using APC PCNS, ESXi host shutdown fails on vSphere Management Assistant 5.0.0.1 and 5.0.0.2

Issue/Introduction

Symptoms:
  • ESXi hosts do not shutdown when commanded to by PowerChute network shutdown.
  • In the PowerChute log, you see errors similar to:

    [11.05.2012, 17:45:12]debug: Login by vi-fastpass to: <ESXi Host>
    [11.05.2012, 17:45:12]debug: Error: Unable to login to host: "<ESXi Host>"! Host may not be accessible over the network or is not managed by VMA



Environment

VMware vSphere ESXi 5.0
VMware vSphere Management Assistant 5.5
VMware vCenter Server 5.0.x

Resolution

This is a known issue affecting VMware vSphere Management Assistant 5.0 .
There are two workarounds for this issue:
  • Downgrade the VMware vSphere Management Assistant to 5.0.0.
  • Download and install the shutdown script from the APC Support Site.
