Manually downloading VMware Update Manager patches

Issue/Introduction

This article provides information to download VMware Upload Manager patches without navigating to the VMware Download Patches Website.

Environment

VMware vCenter Server 4.1.x
VMware vCenter Update Manager 4.0.x
VMware vCenter Server 4.0.x
VMware vCenter Update Manager 4.1.x

Resolution

You can use the Update Manager Download Service to download updates and then copy and paste the updates to the VMware Update Manager repository.

To download the patches, run this command from the command-line:

vmware-umds --download

To download updates for a particular release between a two specific dates, run this command:

vmware-umds --re-download -start-time <start_date_time> --end-time <end_date_time>

For example:

vmware-umds --re-download -start-time 2008-05-01T00:00:00 --end-time 2008-05-31T23:59:59

After the patches are downloaded, copy them to your repository. By default, the repository is located at C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\VMware\VMware Update Manager\Data\ .
