Issue/Introduction

Symptoms:
  • After reinstalling vCenter Server, vCenter Site Recovery Manager (SRM) starts, but fails immediately
  • In the vmware-dr.log file of SRM, you see this error:

Initializing service content: std::exception 'class Vmacore::Exception' "Registration with the local VC server is not valid"

Environment

VMware vCenter Site Recovery Manager 5.1.x
VMware vCenter Site Recovery Manager 5.5.x
VMware vCenter Site Recovery Manager 5.0.x

Cause

This issue occurs because the SRM extension is lost after reinstalling vCenter Server. SRM checks for this extension during the start-up and fails if the extension does not exist.

Resolution

To resolve this issue, you must repair the SRM installation by running the SRM installer in the modify mode.
For more information, see Modify the installation of an SRM Server in the Site Recovery Manager Installation and Configuration guide.

Note: You can continue to use the existing database and certificate after the installation completes.
