Issue/Introduction

Symptoms:

• In vCenter Server, the VMware VirtualCenter Server service within Home > Administration reports this warning under the LDAP domain trust change monitor category:
  
  Encountered an error when checking domain trust health: error code: 1717
  Encountered an error when checking domain trust health: error code: 1722
  
  
• vCenter Server is unable to communicate with the domain controller to process authentication requests.

Environment

VMware vCenter Server 5.1.x
VMware vCenter Server 4.0.x
VMware vCenter Server 4.1.x
VMware vCenter Server 5.5.x
VMware vCenter Server 5.0.x

Cause

This issue occurs because vCenter Server is unable to contact the domain.

Resolution

To resolve this issue, contact your domain administrator.

This issue may also occur if vCenter Server belongs only to a work group and not to a domain. In this case, you cannot remove the warning. However, you can safely ignore this warning.
