Modifying the VLAN ID for a vSphere Distributed Switch (vDS) port group fails
Changing the VLAN ID or VLAN ID range of an existing distributed port group, or adding a new distributed port group with a certain VLAN ID or VLAN ID range, fails with the error:
A specified parameter was not correct. spec.vlan
Environment
VMware vCenter Server 7.x VMware vCenter Server 8.x
Cause
This issue occurs if the VLAN ID or range entered is invalid, or if one or more of the VLANs have already been used for Primary Private VLANs in the distributed switch.
Resolution
To resolve this issue, ensure that the VLAN ID entered is a valid positive integer value between 1 and 4094 and that the values are not used for Private VLANs on the distributed switch.
