Issue/Introduction

Symptoms:
  • When a vMotion is performed on a virtual machine from one ESX/ESXi host to another, it may lose network connectivity
  • When the virtual machine is migrated by a vMotion back to the original host, it works properly
  • In the hostd.log file, you see entries similar to:

    [2011-03-16 10:59:25.324 F62F2B90 verbose 'App'] Looking up object with name = "haTask--vim.dvs.HostDistributedVirtualSwitchManager.updatePorts-890566" failed.
    [2011-03-16 10:59:25.325 F62F2B90 verbose 'PropertyCollector'] GetPropertyProvider failed for haTask--vim.dvs.HostDistributedVirtualSwitchManager.updatePorts-890566

  • In the vpxa.log file, you see entries similar to:

    [2009-09-29 03:39:04.158 0x121d7b90 error 'App'] [VpxaMoDvs::ProcessDvsSpec] failed to remove ports in dvs [42 4e 06 50 b6 e1 0d 7b-e5 58 47 d9 24 59 7c 13] during a spec sync: caught vim.fault.PlatformConfigFault exception: spec:[(vpxapi.DvportRemoveSpec)

Resolution

This issue is resolved in VMware vCenter Server 4.0 Update 2 and vCenter Server 4.1.
