Issue/Introduction

Symptoms:
  • Windows 8 Virtual Machine that is created with an older version of Workstation loses touch screen ability when opened in Workstation 9
  • While migrating a Virtual Machine from an older version of Workstation to Workstation 9, the touch screen ability is lost


Environment

VMware Workstation 8.x (Linux)
VMware Workstation 9.x (Linux)
VMware Workstation 8.x (Windows)
VMware Workstation 9.x (Windows)

Cause

This issue occurs due to changes made to the hardware versioning in Workstation 9.

Resolution

To resolve this issue:
  1. Open the .vmx file of the virtual machine using a text editor. For more information, see Tips for editing a .vmx file (1714).
  2. Add this entry to the vmx file:

    touchscreen.vusb.present = TRUE

  3. Power on the virtual machine.
