Issue/Introduction

  • Unable to delete VIO-created network through NSX GUI.
  • Network is a VIO-created network with ports. When attempting to delete the network from the VIO interface, error produced:
2018-05-29 14:22:08.970 14056 ERROR neutron.api.v2.resource ManagerError: Unexpected error from backend manager (['NSX-Manager-FQDN']) for DELETE api/v1/dhcp/servers/########-df81-41b2-ae21-###########: Entity LogicalDhcpServer/########-df81-41b2-ae21-############ can not be deleted as it is being referenced by entity LogicalPort/########-400c-4180-bedc-############.
  • From VIO GUI, that network no longer has ports attached
  • From NSX GUI, network exists with ports connection
  • Port does not appear to be in use from NSX side
  • Delete port option (Trash can icon) is greyed out

Environment

VMware NSX for vSphere 6.4.x

Cause

Internal network created from VIO changed to an external network
This orphans the DHCP Server in VIO, and NSX cannot delete the port or network, as it is a VIO-created object
VIO believes the object to be deleted, NSX believes the object is still there

Resolution

Since the network and ports were created by VIO, NSX Manager does not have the permission to delete these objects, they are opaque to NSX
Since VIO had already deleted these ports from the network, there is no place in the GUI to clean the ports from the network
