Questions:

How do I upgrade applications from MARK IV to VISION:Builder?

Answer:

MARK IV applications are upward compatible to VISION:Builder. VISION:Builder was just a rename so MARK IV is exactly the same thing as VISION:Builder.

Any application written under any release of MARK IV / VISION:Builder will upgrade transparently to any new release of MARK IV / VISION:Builder if the application was written following product guidelines.

There were some cases in upgrades from applications developed prior to release 13 which did not upgrade transparently because  the application code or JCL did not follow MARK IV guidelines even at the time it was written,  or  errors in user logic are now trapped, preventing the continuing propagation of erroneous data.

The most common areas where noncompliance occurred were in Formatted and Formatted Sectional Reporting since this code was tightened up significantly between releases 9 and 10.

All cases have been resolved by the application being modified to conform to the documented syntax.
