Issue/Introduction

Symptoms:
  • Email alerts are sent every time the virtual machine CPU usage exceeds 75%
  • The frequency of the alarm in the alarm definition for the virtual machine is set to 5 minutes

VMware vCenter Server 4.0.x
VMware vCenter Server 4.1.x
VMware VirtualCenter 2.5.x

Resolution

This issue may occur if the Trigger options are not set to meet all conditions.

To resolve this issue, perform these steps within the vSphere Client connected to vCenter Server:
  1. Go to Alarm Settings under the Cluster.
  2. Click the Triggers tab.
  3. Click VM CPU Usage (%) under Trigger Type.
  4. Select the Trigger if all of the conditions are satisfied option.
  5. Click OK.
