Issue/Introduction

Symptoms:

  • After vMotion of an NSX-V Edge services gateway, the traffic flow is interrupted for up to 30 seconds.
  • Packet captures confirm that a gratuitous ARP is sent to the physical switch.
  • The physical switch is an HP switch, and the switch's ARP tables are not updated immediately after the GARP is sent.

Environment

VMware NSX for vSphere 6.0.x
VMware NSX for vSphere 6.1.x
VMware vSphere ESXi 5.5

Cause

This issue is a known issue with certain HP switches.

Resolution

To resolve this issue, apply the mac-address mac-move fast-update global switch configuration setting.

Note:
  • Use mac-address mac-move fast-update to enable ARP fast update for MAC move.
  • Use undo mac-address mac-move fast-update to restore the default.
