Issue/Introduction

Symptoms:
This article provides the steps to change the VMware vCenter Update Manager database password.
Note: This article applies only to Update Manager 4.1 Update 1, 5.x, and 6.0.


Environment

VMware vCenter Update Manager 4.1.x
VMware vCenter Update Manager 5.5.x
VMware vCenter Server 4.1.x
VMware vCenter Server 5.0.x
VMware vCenter Server 5.5.x
VMware vCenter Server 6.0.x
VMware vCenter Update Manager 5.1.x
VMware vCenter Update Manager 5.0.x
VMware vCenter Server 5.1.x
VMware vCenter Update Manager 6.0.x

Resolution

To change the database password in Update Manager 4.1 Update 1, 5.x and 6.0
  1. Navigate to the directory where Update Manager is installed. The default location is:

    C:\Program Files (x86)\VMware\Infrastructure\Update Manager\.

  2. Launch VMwareUpdateManagerUtility.exe.
  3. Use an account with administrator privileges on vCenter Server to log in to the utility.
  4. Click Database Settings.
  5. Type your new username and password in the appropriate fields.
  6. Click Apply.
  7. Close the VMware vCenter Update Manager utility.
  8. Restart the VMware vCenter Update Manager service.
