Issue/Introduction

Symptoms:
  • One or more virtual machines are labelled Pending and do not proceed any further
  • You see the error:

msg.hbacommon.outofspace: There is no more space for virtual disk VirtualDisk.vmdk. You may be able to continue this session by freeing disk space on the relevant volume, and clicking Retry. Otherwise, click Cancel to terminate this session

Environment

VMware ESX 4.0.x
VMware ESX 4.1.x
VMware vCenter Stage Manager 1.0.x

Resolution

If virtual machines are deployed on to a datastore that has very little available disk space, the parent configuration may report that it is in an inconsistent state and does not show the configuration details.
To resolve this issue, you must free up disk space.
To free up disk space:
  1. Access the datastore where the virtual machines have been deployed and free up some disk space. For more information, see Investigating disk space on an ESX host (1003564).
  2. Click Retry. The virtual machine should now resume normal operation.
When the pending messages on all virtual machine have been cleared, the configuration is no longer in an inconsistent state and the configuration resumes normal operation.
This issue may also occur when using snapshots. When using snapshots, the size of the child disk increases over time and you see the same error. For more information, see:
