Troubleshooting a Data Manager application initialize failure

Issue/Introduction

Symptoms:
  • Cannot start Data Manager
  • Application stops responding on initialization
  • Cannot initialize Data Manager
  • You receive the following errors:
    • VMware Capacity Planner Manager Initialization failed.
      Check the database and make sure it is not corrupt or locked.
      The manager will not start until the problem is repaired.
    • MDAC 2.71 or above is required .

Environment

VMware Capacity Planner 2.5.x
VMware Capacity Planner 2.1.x
VMware Capacity Planner 2.6.x

Resolution

Validate that each troubleshooting step below is true for your environment. The steps will provide instructions or a link to a document, for validating the step and taking corrective action as necessary. The steps are ordered in the most appropriate sequence to isolate the issue and identify the proper resolution. Please do not skip a step.

  1. Confirm that you have install and are running the application as a local Administrator. For more information, see Confirming local Administrator rights (1005553).
  2. Ensure that the host operating system is configured to use the English (US) region. For more information, see Opening Data Manager in Capacity Planner displays an error when using Non-English regional settings (7046256) .
  3. Verify that the host server has the correct components and component version required to run Capacity Planner. For more information, see Components and versions required to run Capacity Planner (1005546)
  4. The database could be corrupted, attempt to repair the database file. For more information, see Repairing the Capacity Planner Collector's Database (8415731) .
