Issue/Introduction

Symptoms:
  • Adding a ESX/ESXi 4.1 host to vCenter Server 4.0 fails
  • You see the error:

    A general system error occurred:internal error:vmodl.fault.hostCommunication
  • In the /var/log/vmware/hostd.log file, you see these errors:

    [2010-07-15 05:57:20.016 F54B7B90 warning 'Proxysvc Req00045'] Server localhost:8089 disconnected with a response pending.
    [2010-07-15 05:57:20.040 F5C03B90 verbose 'Proxysvc Req00048'] New proxy client SSL(TCP(local=10.10.2.36:3736, peer=10.10.5.70:443))
    [2010-07-15 05:57:20.041 F54B7B90 warning 'Proxysvc Req00048'] Connection to localhost:8089 failed with error N7Vmacore15SystemExceptionE(Connection refused).


Environment

VMware ESXi 4.1.x Installable
VMware ESX 4.1.x
VMware ESXi 4.1.x Embedded

Resolution

This issue occurs because ESX/ESXi 4.1 is not compatible with vCenter Server 4.0.
To resolve this issue, upgrade to vCenter Server 4.1.
