Issue/Introduction

Symptoms:
  • You are unable to log in to a newly converted Windows guest
  • You had a non-US keyboard layout prior to conversion
  • Your user name contains characters that are not part of the US keyboard layout

Environment

VMware vCenter Converter 4.2.x
VMware vCenter Converter Standalone 5.1.x
VMware vCenter Converter Standalone 4.3.x
VMware vCenter Converter Standalone 5.0.x
VMware vCenter Converter Standalone 4.0.x
VMware vCenter Converter 4.1.x
VMware Converter 3.0.x
VMware vCenter Converter 4.0.x

Resolution

The change is by design to maintain compatibility and make sure the keyboard is available on the virtual machine.

To resolve this issue, change the keyboard's layout as required on the guest operating system after the conversion.

VMware recommends having a user with a user name and password that does not require a non-US layout keyboard.
