Symptoms:
  • Virtual machines configured to use IPv6 make vCenter Server slow or unresponsive
  • Refreshing the Virtual Machines tab (by pressing F5) takes a long time to display the list of virtual machines
  • In the vpxd.log file of the IPv6-enabled virtual machine, you see the error:

[VpxdMoVm] Invalid guest IP address for VM cleo: fe80::250:56ff:fea1:23a7

  • vCenter Server fails and you get the Event ID 1000 error

Environment

VMware vCenter Server 4.0.x
VMware vCenter Server 4.1.x
VMware vCenter Server 5.0.x

Resolution

This issue occurs if the operating system on which the vCenter Server is running is unable to handle an IPv6 address reported by VMware Tools.
To resolve this issue, you must configure IPv6 on the operating system that runs the vCenter Server.
To configure IPv6 on Windows:
  1. Go to Control Panel > Network Connections.
  2. Right-click your network connection and click Properties.
  3. Click Install.
  4. Select Protocol and click Add.
  5. Select Microsoft TCP/IP version 6 and click OK.
  6. Reboot Windows.
