Issue/Introduction

Symptoms:
  • The datastore alarm does not get cleared after selecting Acknowledge Alarm in the vSphere Client connection to vCenter Server.
  • The alarm is greyed out.

Environment

VMware vCenter Server 5.0.x
VMware vCenter Server 4.1.x
VMware vCenter Server 4.0.x

Resolution

This issue occurs when the datastore has reached the warning or critical alarm events that are configured in vCenter Server.

Note: This alarm is state-based and it cannot be cleared until the underlying state causing the alarm is resolved.
To clear these warning and critical alarms, try one of these options:

  • Acknowledge the alarm by Right clicking on the alarm.
  • If acknowledging the alarm gets grayed out, but alarm is still not removed, try to disable/ enable the alarm
  • Increase the datastore size.
  • Free up enough space on the datastore, so that it is within the alarm's configured threshold.
  • Increase the threshold on the datastore alarm.
After performing one of these options, initiate a rescan of the hosts/clusters VMFS volumes and HBAs.
