Manual parent child object relationships are removed after a collection cycle in vRealize Operations Manager 6.x and later

Issue/Introduction

Symptoms:

• Manual parent child object relationships configuration in vRealize Operations Manger UI will disappear after the next collection cycle.

Environment

VMware vRealize Operations Manager 7.0.x
VMware vRealize Operations 8.x
VMware vRealize Operations Manager 6.7.x
VMware vRealize Operations Manager 7.5.x
VMware vRealize Operations Manager 6.6.x
VMware vRealize Operations 8.0.x

Cause

The manual parent child object relationship configured will disappear from vRealize Operations Manager UI after a collection cycle (5 minutes) and will be overwritten.

Resolution

This is expected behavior in vRealize Operations Manager.

Workaround:
To workaround this behavior, use one of these alternatives:

• Use Custom Groups for object relationships.
• Use the API to configure manual object relations and they will remain constant in the vRealize Operations Manager UI.
