Applying a host profile in ESXi 5.1.x/ vCenter Server 5.1.x fails with error message: A general system error occurred

Issue/Introduction

Symptoms:

• Applying a host profile to a host fails with the error:
  
  A general system error occurred

• In the vpxd.logs, you see messages similar to:

VMware vCenter Server 5.1.x
VMware vSphere ESXi 5.1

Resolution

To resolve this issue:

1. Log in to the vCenter Server using the vSphere Client

2. Under the Home view, click Host Profiles under Management.

3. In the Host Profiles view, right-click the host profile and select the second option, Enable/Disable Profile Configuration

4. Deselect Storage Configuration

5. Click OK

6. Apply the profile again to the host.
