Issue/Introduction

Symptoms:
In vSphere Client, when you are logged in to a virtual machine console in full screen mode, you experience these symptoms:
  • You cannot exit the virtual machine console.
  • The resize button does not work on the virtual machine console.
  • This issue occurs after you shut down the virtual machine guest operating system.
  • You see an incorrect virtual machine name when you move from one console to another.


Environment

VMware vCenter Server 5.1.x
VMware vSphere ESXi 5.1

Resolution

This is a known issue affecting ESXi 5.1. Currently, there is no resolution.
To work around this issue, perform one of these options:
  • Exit full screen mode before shutting down the guest operating system via the console.
  • Press ALT + F4 to close the full screen console window.
  • Open the virtual machine console in vSphere Web Client instead of vSphere Client.
