Issue/Introduction


Symptoms:
  • You are unable to monitor an ESXi host using SNMP when the host has more than 10 storage LUNs attached.
  • Monitoring an ESXi host using the snmpwalk command fails.
  • A timeout occurs when the SNMP agent tries to gather information about the ESXi host. You see the error:

    Failed to get value of SNMP variable. Timeout.

  • Running the snmpwalk command on an ESXi host times out with the error:

    Timeout: No Response from xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx


Environment

VMware vSphere ESXi 5.5
VMware vSphere ESXi 5.1
VMware vSphere ESXi 5.0

Cause

Resolution

This is a known issue affecting ESXi 5.0, 5.1 and 5.5.
This issue is resolved in ESXi 5.1 Patch 4. For more information, see VMware ESXi 5.1, Patch Release ESXi510-201404001 (2070666).

This issue is resolved in ESXi 5.5 Update 2. For more information, see VMware ESXi 5.5 Update 2 Release Notes.

Currently, there is no resolution or work around for ESXi 5.0.
