Issue/Introduction

Symptoms:
  • VIO is deployed with VDS Networking and not NSX.
  • Networks are created in VIO with IPv6 Subnets.
  • DHCP is enabled for the IPv6 Subnets.
  • Instances deployed in VIO on these networks do not receive an IPv6 address from the DHCP Servers.
  • If instances are manually configured with IPv6 addresses within the guest OS their networking functions without issue.

Environment

VMware Integrated OpenStack 4.x
VMware Integrated OpenStack 5.x

Cause

Currently DHCP on IPv6 subnets is not supported in VIO deployments using VDS networking or with NSX-T.

Resolution

This is a known issue affecting VMware Integrated OpenStack with VDS Networking.
Currently, there is no resolution.

Workaround:
When using IPv6 subnets in VIO deployments using VDS networking addresses must be manually assigned to instances from within their guest OS.
