Issue/Introduction

Symptoms:
NSX Guest Introspection installation error for environments where DRS is not enabled: "Create resource pool - The operation is not supported on the object."

Environment

VMware NSX for vSphere 6.3.x
VMware NSX for vSphere 6.4.x

Cause

When NSX deploys Guest Introspection VMs, it will try to create Resource Pool called ESXi Agents and place them there, however creating resource pools in a cluster that is not enabled for DRS is not possible, so the mentioned error will be shown by VCenter. NSX will then create a Folder where the VMs will be grouped in and the installation will continue as normal.

Resolution

This error can be safely ignored. If Guest Introspection is deployed in environment where DRS is not functional or used for some reason, NSX will deploy the Guest Introspection VMs into ESXi Agents Folder instead of ESXi Agents Resource pool.

Additional Information

The vSphere Essentials Kit is the most often scenario where we see customers not using DRS and not able to create Resource pools.
