NSX manager upgrade appears to be stuck after a reboot.

Issue/Introduction

Symptoms:

• During NSX Manager reboot or upgrade, the following message are logged in the console.
  
  [ 15.086626] EXT3-fs (sda2): using internal journal
[ 15.087457] EXT3-fs (sda2): mounted filesystem with writeback data mode
[ 47.201213] postgres (6669): /proc/6669/oom_adj is deprecated, please use /proc/6669/oom_score_adj instead.

Note: The values in bracket may differ, after these messages are logged no further output is seen on the console for a long time.

 

Environment

VMware NSX for vSphere 6.3.x
VMware NSX for vSphere 6.2.x

Resolution

Postgres operations may take a very long time; at the time when these messages are logged ssh has not been started and the management network port is not yet active, login to check logs / processes is not possible at this stage.

Check cpu, memory activity for the nsx manager appliance from vCenter to confirm that the manager is still working or indeed dead before deciding to terminate the upgrade procedure.
