Issue/Introduction

Symptoms:
  • Upgrading a vCenter Appliance from 6.5 to 6.7 fails with the error:

    A problem occurred while getting data from the source vCenter Server
  • In the /var/log/vmware/upgrade-requirements.log file, you see entries similar to:

    2019-06-04T12:34:37.733Z WARNING transport.guestops The  guest OS otherGuestFamily on VM <IP Address> may not be fully supported.
    2019-06-04T12:37:09.629Z WARNING transport.guestops The  guest OS otherGuestFamily on VM <IP Address> may not be fully supported.


Environment

VMware vCenter Server 6.7.x
VMware vCenter Server 6.5.x

Cause

This issue occurs because the VMware Tools service/Host is unable to detect the appliance OS type/version.

Resolution

This issue is resolved in vCenter Server Appliance 6.7 U1b, available at VMware Downloads
