Issue/Introduction

This article provides steps to modify the password of the database user, which is stored in vCenter Server.

Note: This procedure does not change the database user password, but updates the database user's password that is stored in vCenter Server.

You may want to do this because the company's security policy may require users to change their passwords periodically.

Environment

VMware vCenter Server 4.0.x
VMware vCenter Server 4.1.x

Resolution

vCenter Server encrypts and stores the database user password. If the database user password is changed in the Windows domain or SQL Server, the information stored in the vCenter Server must be updated.
To modify current database user password in vCenter Server:
  1. Connect the vSphere Client to vCenter Server.
  2. Click Administration > vCenter Server Settings > Advanced Settings.
  3. Scroll to the VirtualCenter.DBPassword parameter and set it to the new password.
