New extended fields that are of type hierarchy must be created on global configurations and are usually created across all asset families. The following is a primer on how to create such a structure.
Release: All Releases
Component: CA IT Asset Manager
Please review the following and test in a non-prod instance before attempting in prod
1. Select the global configuration to create the hierarchy
The example below creates a ‘Location hierarchy’ on the ‘Asset Global’ configuration form.
Click Add Extension.
2. Select ‘hierarchy field’, and the page section where the fields will display. Click next.
3. Enter the name of the hierarchy and the table name where the field hierarchy structure is stored.
Since this hierarchy starts with an existing field, create just the Floor and Room levels.
Click Next.
4. Define the hierarchy level fields and field names.
The two fields, name and description, will display for each level defined. Click Next.
5. Summary page appears. Click Save and Exit.
6. Very Important – click SAVE on the global configuration form!
7. View the new field hierarchy structure.
Group the hierarchy fields together for ease of use on the form.
Populate the Hierarchy fields with data
8. Navigate to Directory-> List Management. Select the Floor field and click New to define the Floor values
9. Define the floor values per location. Click SAVE.
10. Edit a specific Floor, and click Room List to create the Room fields
11. Test the hierarchy.
Each specific location name allows for selection of specific floors and rooms per floor.
Hierarchy extension fields are defined on global configurations only
