Issue/Introduction

The purpose of this kb is to recover from corrupted files in:

/opt/vmware/vlcm/blackstone/boot/content_admin_pass.enc
/opt/vmware/vlcm/blackstone/boot/contentadmin_ssh_pass.enc

Symptoms:
  • When you navigate to content management you see this error:
Sorry, we could not initialize content management services. Trying again after sometime. If the issue persists, contact customer support.
  • The content_admin_pass.enc and contentadmin_ssh_pass.enc appear empty.

Environment

VMware vRealize Suite Lifecycle Manager 2.x

Cause

This issue can arise when the root partition fills corrupting the relevant configuration files

Resolution


1. Take a snapshot of the Appliance before proceeding
2. Edit and add the password "vmware" to the files:
/opt/vmware/vlcm/blackstone/boot/content_admin_pass.enc
/opt/vmware/vlcm/blackstone/boot/contentadmin_ssh_pass.enc

3. Restart the system services by running the command systemctl restart vlcm-xserver

Take a snapshot before making changes as this is a configuration file.
