Windows 8 Release Preview と Windows Server 2012 RC で導入された、Microsoft の仮想マシンの世代カウンタの仕様の変更のために、対応する変更が仮想マシンの BIOS でも必要でした。これらのバージョンの Windows の仮想マシンのスナップショット、チェックポイント、および vMotion アクションは、Microsoft の仮想マシンの世代カウンタの仕様の異なるリビジョンを実装した ESXi ホストの間で互換性がありません。

ESXi 5.0 Update 1 または ESXi 5.0 P03 を実行するホストで作成された、 Windows 8 または Windows Server 2012 の仮想マシンのスナップショットとチェックポイントは、それらより新しいバージョンの ESXi （ESXi 5.0 Update 2、ESXi 5.1 など）を実行するホスト上でレジュームを行えず、またその逆も同様です。

Resolution

ESXi 5.0 Update 1 または ESXi 5.0 P03 を実行するホストと、それらより新しいバージョンの ESXi を実行するホストとの間で、Windows 8 または Windows Server 2012 の仮想マシンを移行するには、次の手順を実行します。

1. 仮想マシンをシャットダウンします。
2. 仮想マシンを新しいホストに移行します。
3. 仮想マシンを再起動します。
