Trying to invoke  sm_authority.pl script for authentication on in Smarts application console hangs indefinitely
Authentication in Smarts application console hangs when invoking sm_authority.pl script

When trying to invoke Smarts sm_authority.pl script to use serverConnect.conf file for authentication, the authentication hangs when attaching to a console.

Cause

Custom sm_authority.pl script is being used, and the sm_authority timeout value in the custom script is greater than the time out in the Smarts application code. In this condition, sm_authority may hang indefinitely.

Resolution

The default timeout in DMT foundation code of Smarts is 30 seconds. To use a custom sm_authority.pl script, you need to use a timeout value in the custom script that is less than 30 seconds. The values that need to be set are as follows:

• "SM_AUTHORITY_TIMEOUT" - Set to less than 30 seconds
• "SM_AUTHORITY_RESTART_RETRIES" - Set as desired.
