How can I synchronize SNMPv3 devices between Smarts IP and NCM?

Cannot configure SNMPv3 on the Smarts NCM Integration Adapter

Environment

VMware Smart Assurance - NCM
VMware Smart Assurance - SMARTS

Cause

As of the date this solution was approved (April 2013), there is no support for SNMPv3 with the Smarts NCM Integration Adapter. Only SNMPv1/v2 is supported.

Resolution

To work around this Smarts NCM Integration Adapter limitation, do the following

1. Add the SNMPv3 credential of the Smarts IP device in Smarts NCM, either under global or network.
2. Discover the device in Smarts IP with the same SNMPv3 credential created in Smarts NCM.
3. Configure the Smarts NCM Integration Adapter and synchronize such that the discovered device is added to Smarts NCM.
4. Check for the pending job in Schedule Manager.
5. Go to the network where autodiscovery job is created, and assign the v3 credential to the job.
6. Approve the pending job in Schedule Manager.
