To resolve the issue:
- Ensure that you are connected to the Internet. If the physical machine is not able to connect to the Internet, you will experience network connectivity issues. Contact your network administrator or Internet Service provider for assistance.
- Disable any firewall that is installed on the physical machine. Firewall programs may block the VMware Workstation updater from reaching the update server.
- Go to Start > Run and type %temp% to clear the temporary folder.
- Quit VMware Workstation or Player software.
- Reboot the physical machine.
- Start Workstation or Player and retry the upgrade.
If the upgrade continues to fail, try the upgrade at a later time as it might be an issue with VMware Workstation Update Server.
You can also try downloading the full installer for the recent version of VMware Workstation from the VMware Web site and perform the upgrade manually.
To download and install/upgrade the product manually:
- Exit VMware Workstation.
- Download the most recent version of VMware Workstation at the VMware Download Center or VMware Player at VMware Download Center.
- Install VMware Workstation. For more information, refer to the user manuals available at VMware Workstation Documentation.
- Restart the physical machine.
- Launch VMware Workstation.
