Issue/Introduction

Symptoms:
  • Storage provider certificate showing expired in vCenter [ VASA Provider ] even after renewing the certificate from storage vendor.
  • VVOLs datastore are inactive.
  • Unable to increase size of the .vmdks


Environment

VMware Update Manager 6.0
VMware vCenter Server 6.0.x
VMware vCenter Converter Standalone 6.x
VMware vSphere ESXi 6.0
VMware vCenter Server Appliance 6.0.x

Resolution

If the certificate is renewed before the Storage provider certificate expired , kindly follow the below steps.

  1. Browse to the vCenter Server in the vSphere Web Client navigator.
  2. Click the Manage tab, and click Storage Providers
  3. Click on refresh certificate.

If the certificate is renewed after expiration, follow the below steps

  1. Remove and add the storage provider certificate at vCenter to renew the storage provider certificate at vCenter.
  2. In your vSphere Web Client “home screen” click “vCenter”
  3. Now in the “Inventory Lists” click “vCenter Servers”
  4. Select your “vCenter Server” in the left pane
  5. Click the “Manage” tab in the right pane
  6. Click “Storage Provider” in the right pane
  7. Click on the “green plus”
  8. Fill out your details and hit “OK”
  9. Once you add the stoarge provider again with new certificate, the VVOL datastore will become online and will be able to perform all the actions on the VVOL.
