Issue/Introduction

Symptoms:
  • After uninstalling vShield Manager or changing the IP of the vShield Manager server, vCenter Server has out-dated vShield Manager plugin information
  • You see one or more of these errors:
    • The following error occurred while downloading the script plugin form https://XXX.XXX.XXX.XX:443/viplugin.xml: The remote server returned an error: (404) Not Found.
    • Remote server could not be contacted.


Environment

VMware vShield 4.1.x
VMware vShield 5.0.x

Cause

This is caused by outdated information in the MOB for the vShield Manager plugin or an IP address change to vShield Manager.

Resolution

To resolve this issue, unregister the vShield Manager Plug-in:
  1. Navigate to the vCenter Server MOB address (https://vCenterServerIPAdress/mob).
  2. Enter the vCenter Server credentials when prompted.
  3. Click the Content link under the Properties table of the home page.
  4. Click the ExtensionManager link under the Properties table.
  5. Copy the extensionList property value (for example com.vmware.vShieldManager) into the buffer.
  6. Click the UnregisterExtension method.
  7. Paste the extensionList property value into the extensionKey value field.
  8. Click the Invoke Method link.
  9. Close and then relaunch the vSphere Client connected to vCenter Server.
  10. If you have changed the IP address of vShield Manager:

    1. Log in to vShield Manager via a web browser and log in using the administrator credentials.
    2. Click the Register link in the main page of the vShield Manager GUI.
