Issue/Introduction

Symptoms:
NSX-T Upgrade Coordinator has an option to pause Host upgrades if there is a failure.

Pause upgrade condition - When an upgrade unit fails to upgrade

Upgrades to NSX-T 2.3 and earlier releases may not pause if a failure is experienced with a host and will proceed to upgrade the next host.

Environment

VMware NSX-T Data Center
VMware NSX-T Data Center 2.x

Cause

Following upgrade reboot, if a host is unable to report the VIB status to the NSX-T Manager the Manager will incorrectly mark it as a success. Consequently even if the option to pause on failure has been selected the upgrade will proceed.

Resolution

This issue is resolved in NSX-T 2.3.

The fix is implemented in the Manager. Since the Manager is the last component to be upgraded, the fix does not come into effect until upgrades from NSX-T 2.3 to a later release.

Workaround:
To workaround this issue the upgrade should be monitored and if a host has a failure, the upgrade should be manually paused until the host issue is resolved.
