Issue/Introduction

Symptoms:
Upgrading from vCenter Server 6.7.x (base version below or less than 6.7 Update1) to vCenter Server 6.7 Update 2 fails with error 1603 when using a SQL database and Windows Authentication.

Environment

VMware vCenter Server 6.7.x

Cause

In the case of Windows authentication, the vCenter Server installer is unable to determine the database password and hence cannot successfully connect to the database.

Resolution

Performing these steps before starting the upgrade:

1. Download and copy update scripts attached to this KB locally <local path>
2. Launch commandline as administrator user
3. Run C:\Program Files\VMware\vCenter Server\python\python.exe <local path>\vcdb_update.py --dbuser <DB User> --dbpassword <DB Password>
4.Post run should exit without any errors.
5.Launch 6.7 U2 installer and complete the upgrade.
