Issue/Introduction
Symptoms:
Cannot update the vCenter Single Sign-On component of vCenter Server 5.5 Update 1b Build 1891313 to vCenter Server 5.5 Update 2 Build 2105955.
Updating the Single Sign-On component of vCenter Server 5.5 Update 1b Build 1891313 to vCenter Server 5.5 Update 2 Build 2105955 fails.
You see the error:
There is a problem with this Windows Installer package. A program run as part of the setup did not finish as expected. Contact your support personnel or package vendor.
In the vim-openssl-msi.log file, you see entries similar to:
MSI (s) (E4:C4) [11:18:31:576]: Rejecting product '{7CA4FE96-7C9E-40ED-ABF7-3EA5D78529D3}': Non-assigned apps are disabled for non-admin users. MSI (s) (E4:C4) [11:18:31:576]: Note: 1: 1708 MSI (s) (E4:C4) [11:18:31:576]: Product: VMware-OpenSSL -- Installation failed.
Environment
VMware vCenter Server 5.5.x
Cause
This issue occurs when the logged in user executing the installer does not have Local Administrator rights on the machine.
Resolution
To resolve this issue, log in to the machine with user credentials having Local Administrator rights to update the vCenter Server components.
