Alarms not triggering on Standard or Distributed vSwitch with no active ports

Issue/Introduction

Symptoms:
vCenter Server host networking alarms for inactive port groups do not trigger. Affected alarms are:

• Network Connectivity Lost
• Network uplink redundancy degraded

Environment

VMware vCenter Server

Cause

This issue occurs when there is not an active IP address on the vSwitch that the vmnics are attached to.

Resolution

This is a known issue affecting vCenter Server .

To work around this issue, create a VMkernel port on the Standard or Distributed vSwitch.
