Issue/Introduction

Symptoms:
After you rename vCenter Server 4.x or add it to a new domain, you experience these symptoms:
  • The VMware VirtualCenter Management Webservices fails to start
  • When you perform searches, you see the error:

Unable to connect to web services to execute query
  • In the Performance Overview tab, you see the error:

Environment

Cause

This issue may occur if an incorrect FQDN is referenced in the vCenter Server Advanced Settings and occurs because DNS hostname entries are no longer accurate.

Resolution

To resolve the issue:
  1. From the vSphere Client, navigate to vCenter Server Settings > Advanced Settings .
  2. Update these attributes with the correct FQDN of vCenter Server:

    VirtualCenter.VimApiUrl : https://<vCenter Server FQDN> :443/sdk
    VirtualCenter.VimWebServicesUrl : https://<vCenter Server FQDN>:8443/vws

  3. Restart the VMware VirtualCenter Management Webservices service. For more information, see Stopping, starting, or restarting vCenter services (1003895) .
