Issue/Introduction

Symptoms:
  • When connected to vCenter Server 4.1 using the vSphere Client to create a CentOS 6 or Oracle Linux 6 virtual machine, the list of guest operating systems includes only CentOS 4 and 5 and Oracle Linux 4 and 5
  • CentOS 6 and Oracle Linux 6 are not listed in the guest operating systems list when creating a new virtual machine
  • Both CentOS 6 and Oracle Linux 6 operating systems are listed in the supported guest operating systems for vSphere 4.1
  • When you connect directly to the ESX/ESXi host with the vSphere Client, both operating systems are listed correctly
  • This issue affects both 32 and 64bit versions of the operating systems


Environment

VMware vCenter Server 4.1.x

Cause

VMware is aware of this issue.

Resolution

This issue is resolved in vCenter Server 4.1 Update 3.

To download vCenter Server 4.1 Update 3, see the VMware Download Center.
To workaround this issue, connect directly to the ESX/ESXi host using the vSphere Client when creating CentOS 6 or Oracle Linux 6 virtual machines.
