Enhancement to VMware Tools installer for FreeBSD

Issue/Introduction

This article describes the VMware Tools installer for FreeBSD for maintaining compatibility with pre-existing VMware drivers that exist in the kernel.

Environment

VMware vSphere ESXi 7.x
VMware vSphere ESXi 8.x

Resolution

While installing VMware Tools 10.0.0 in FreeBSD 10.x, overwrite the inbox VMXNET3 driver with VMware Tools driver by running this command if required:

# ./vmware-install.pl --clobber-kernel-modules=vmxnet3

Note: If you overwrite the vmxnet3 driver using clobber, configure the network by referring to VMXNET3 network adapter on FreeBSD OS displays incorrect name after installing VMware Tools
