Symptoms:
When you power on the virtual machine, the vSphere 5.0 Web Client reports an error, but the power on operation is actually successful
The Web Client reports the error:
The Power on virtual machine operation failed for entity Permission to perform this operation was denied.
In the Web Client logs, you see the error:
inherited from com.vmware.vim.binding.vim.fault.NoPermission: Permission to perform this operation was denied. [ERROR] http-9443-2 com.vmware.vsphere.client.vm.powerops.impl.VmPowerOpManager com.vmware.vim.binding.vim.fault.NoPermission: object = com.vmware.vim.binding.vmodl.ManagedObjectReference@a39bef51, privilegeId = System.Read inherited from com.vmware.vim.binding.vmodl.fault.SecurityError: inherited from com.vmware.vim.binding.vim.fault.NoPermission: Permission to perform this operation was denied.
If you try to power on the virtual machine using the vSphere Client, you do not see any errors and the virtual machine powers on successfully

Cause
This issue occurs because the power on operation in the Web Client throws an exception.
Resolution
This issue is resolved in VCenter Server 5.1. To work around this issue in the earlier releases, use the vSphere Client to power on the virtual machine.
