SNMP agents may be added in APG through a well-formatted seed file. Possible formats vary, but missing settings will need to be defined manually if default values do not fit. The standard/default field separator for seed files used with APG is COMMA, but TAB field separation is also supported. Seed file formats are:

  • basic: IP, name

  • standard: IP, name, [community string], [port], [SNMP version]

  • full: Name, IP, port, protocol, timeout, retries, version, community, authProto, authPass, privProto, privPass, devtype, [explicit-group]

To import SNMP agents from a seed file in Watch4Net APG, do the following:

  1. Browse your file system path to the seed file location and select the seed file. If required for your seed file, you can use the "using" pull-down menu to change the field separation used from the default TAB to COMMA.
  2. Upon successful upload, a message with a quick summary of the operation is displayed, explaining any errors found in the file. For example, in a seed file containing 150 agents among which 3 have invalid definitions, the displayed message will state that 147 out of 150 were successfully uploaded and provide an error message containing the lines in the seed file of the 3 invalid entries.
