vMotion operation takes a very long time, but does not fail

Symptoms:

• vMotion operations are taking significantly longer than expected.
• The issue occurs intermittently, and the duration varies each time the same VM is migrated.

Environment

• VMware vSphere 8.0
• VMware vSphere 7.0

Cause

• This behavior may be caused by several factors.

Resolution

• Please ensure that the network designated for vMotion is not experiencing congestion from other traffic.
• It is also recommended to follow best practices by isolating vMotion traffic through a dedicated VMkernel port and assigning it to separate physical NICs, refer - Networking Best Practices for vSphere vMotion
