To install VMware Tools on a Windows Server 2008 Core guest operating system:
- Log in to your Windows Server Core using an administrator account.
- In the virtual machine menu, Click Install VMware Tools.
- In the command prompt, switch to the drive that corresponds to the CD/DVD drive.
- Run the setup command to initiate the graphical user interface (GUI) for installing VMware Tools.
- Follow the wizard to complete the VMware Tools installation.
Note: For an unattended VMware Tools install on 2008 Server R2 Core and to reboot the virtual machine automatically after the installation, follow the steps below:
- Right click on the Virtual Machine and click Guest then Install/Upgrade VMware Tools
- Click on the Console tab for the Virtual Machine
- At the command prompt with the R2 Core Virtual Machine enter the following command:
msiexec.exe /i “D:\VMware Tools.msi” /qn
