Symptoms:

When does Smarts IP generate PARTITION DOWN and DEVICE DOWN alarms?
Is it possible to get independent alarms in Smarts IP for all the devices in the partition instead of on PARTITION DOWN alarm?

Please note: If any of the devices in the Partition have a discovery error, the partition down Alarm will NOT be generated.

Environment

VMware Smart Assurance - SMARTS

Resolution

The Smarts IP Availability Manager creates partitions by default. If just one device in the partition is unresponsive/down, then an individual DEVICE DOWN alarm will be generated. If all the devices belonging to the same partition are unresponsive/down, then one PARTITION DOWN alarm will be generated. It's currently not possible for Smarts IP to generate independent alarms for all the devices in a partition instead of the single PARTITION DOWN alarm.
