Issue/Introduction

Symptoms:




Discovery of device fails
Discovery error no response from SNMPAgent

SNMP response time exceeds 500 milliseconds ms

Environment

VMware Smart Assurance - SMARTS

Cause

defaultSNMPAutoTimeout value is too low.

Resolution

Edit the discovery.conf file and increase the value from the default of 500 to a higher value.

Additional Information

Do not increase the value to high like 5000 as it may increase the length of the Full Discovery.  Also check the value for defaultSNMPAutoRetries in discovery.conf. As you increase the decrease defaultSNMPAutoTimeout, the defaultSNMPAutoRetries from it's default value of 3 to 2 otherwise overall discovery times will increase.
