What do the Smarts AM Poll attributes in the ICMP-only poll Accesssor Dump mean?

The following is an example from an ICMP-only Accessor Dump:

Instance Name:  ICMP::I-ICMP-IP-172.30.68.114
Attribute Name: IPStatus
Polling Period: 60
Last polled At: 26-Aug-2008 10:23:39 MEST
Cached Value:   "TIMEDOUT"
Last Error:
Unconstrained Polling Period: 60
Minimum Window Size: 0
Maximum Window Size: 0
Minimum Window Period: 0
Able To Poll:   TRUE
Have To Poll:   FALSE
Always Poll:    FALSE

The meaning of the above "Poll" values in an ICMP-only Accessor Dump is as follows:

  • Able_to_poll: Can Smarts poll this attribute? This will show SM_TRUE (Able To Poll: TRUE) unless a previous attempt to poll the attribute returned an error indicating that it cannot be polled (such as SNMP_ERR_NOSUCHNAME)

  • Have_to_poll: Smarts sets this flag for attributes that are updated by periodic polling. In the case of the ICMP accessor, this flag is set to FALSE since it does not use the framework accessor polling mechanism. It has its own implementation for updating these attributes.
  • Always_poll: This flag is used for history attributes such as rate, which needs to be polled to be updated.
