Issue/Introduction

Symptoms:




Smarts IP Availability Manager AM/PM service is frequently fluctuating between RUNNING and NOT RUNNING state
Smarts IP domain is not showing in brcontrol output even though no changes were made to firewall rules that would impact broker communication

Logs in Smarts IP environment contain entries similar to the following :

SMS-N-LOG_UNEXPECTEDTERMINATION-Service Core_Lite has terminated unexpectedly
SMS-N-LOG_TRANS-Service Core_Lite has transitioned from state NOT RUNNING to state STARTING via event Start Action

SMS-N-LOG_START-STARTING service Core_Lite

SMS-N-LOG_TRANS-Service Core_Lite has transitioned from state STARTING to  state RUNNING via event Start Time 2

SMS-N-LOG_TRANS-Service Core_Lite has transitioned from state RUNNING to state NOT RUNNING via event Termination
SMS-N-LOG_UNEXPECTEDTERMINATION-Service Core_Lite has terminated unexpectedly

Environment

VMware Smart Assurance - SMARTS

Cause

This problem can be caused by an incorrect machine configuration for hostname and IP address. For example, the machine might be configured with a hostname which maps to more than one IP address.

Resolution

To resolve this issue, ensure that the hostname maps to only one valid IP address.
